The Indian Rupee recovered by 22 paise against the US dollar in the morning trade, on back of dollar's weakness overseas amid firm equity market.
Banks and exporters preferred to sell dollar at current level following persistent fall in dollar value in the New York market.
At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the local unit opened higher at 44.94/95 a dollar from its last close of 45.14/15 and firmed up further to 44.92 per dollar before quoting at 44.99/45.01 per dollar at 1030 hours.
The Indian benchmark Sensex opened 54 points high in the early trade.
