Prison Break cancelled: Fox confirms Prison Break cancellation

Prison Break canceled? Yup, it is now official. Prison Break has been cancelled! That's right, Prison Break will end this season after completing its last few episodes that will begin airing in the spring. This is sad news to the millions of Prison Break fans (and Wentworth Miller fans as well) out there who have been continuously following the show for the past four seasons. However, less than stellar ratings of the show for season three have not shown any

"Prison Break had a hell of a run, but the run has ended," Fox president Kevin Reilly just told reporters at the TV Critics Press Tour. "This will be the last year of the show." Fox officials however, are quick to deny that it was a business decision that was made to cancel the series. On the contrary, according to them, the decision was made from a creative standpoint. "The show has just played out. You get to a point creatively where you feel all the stories have been told, and you want to end strong and not gimp out in the end of the season."

Speculation about the Prison Break cancellation began circulating just before Christmas when it was rumored that Fox ordered additional episodes for the remainder of the season. This was interpreted as a way to tie loose ends of the show in preparation for an ending. Though the said rumors were neither confirmed or denied at the time, it now turns out they were true. When asked by reporters how many episodes of the season are left for Prison Break fans, Kevin Reilly had this to say, "We've got our remaining batch of six episodes, and there are a couple more they're contemplating."

Prison Break is on its annual mid-season break at present although it was announced the Prison Break season 4 episode 17 / Prison Break 4.17 wou;d be "returning in the spring". Fox has now announced that Prison Break will definitely begin airing its last episodes starting April 17, 2009, that is a Friday, replacing the slot to be vacated by The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The storyline for the final part of the series will see brothers Michael and Linc, played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, pitted against each other in the fight to bring down the Company.

It will be a sad end for this once popular series. But maybe this is for the best. After all, now that the brothers are out of prison, what else is there to look forward too. "Creatively, everybody feels enough stories have been told. ...We want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season. They have a cool ending."

The 4.17 episode of "Prison Break" will see Michael and Sara on the run, while Lincoln connects the woman he believes to be his mother.
