Band Baaja Baaraat is yet another attempt from the Yash Raj camp to promote new talent. But this one may stand apart from the earlier ones in that it will justify the earnest intent of the production house as it brings to the fore some really talented people. The movie marks the debut of director Maneesh Sharma and lead actor Ranveer Singh.
Bittu and Shruti get together to start a wedding planning company Shaadi Mubarak on the condition that they will never get romantically involved. While their work grows with every passing day, one night brings the two closer playing a deal breaker. In a state of dilemma and confusion they end up parting ways. But life and business will bring them back together with the realisation that each is incomplete without the other.
Band Baaja Baaraat has the typical Yash Raj colour and flavor to it. The movie’s biggest strength is its ability to embrace the local flavor and transcend to a very classy one with absolute seamlessness. Both Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh don the skin of their characters to perfection. It’s like they are playing themselves in the film. Whether it is Shruti’s local west Delhi touch or Bittu’s typical Saharanpuri accent and style, at no point does the viewer feel any effort or acting.
The film drags only in a few parts in between, but manages to keep us entertained. The music is fabulous and we enjoy each and every wedding that our planners conduct.
