Katrina Darrell, American Idol bikini girl / American Idol bikini audition

The bikini girl / bikini audition has conquered American Idol 8! Yup, American Idol 8 has premiered and a bikini has just passed the audition, and it is going to Hollywood for the next round. Katrina Darrell, clad in the tiniest orange bikini there is walked into the audition room with the confidence and poise of a beauty contest hopeful. But her singing was less than impressive, at least to the other half of the gender divide. Kara DioGuardi, the new American Idol judge this season, immediately distinguished herself by throwing down with the willowy woman in the very orange, very small bikini. Kara DioGuardi, a songwriter and producer who also sings, sang a few bars to show the contestant how it should have been done.

"Honestly, you don't have the chops to sing that song, sweetie," Kara DioGuardi told her. "But your demonstration wasn't any better," the woman snapped back. Ooh, that was razor sharp. At first, I thought this would escalate into a vicious cat fight. However, to my disappointment, it didn't.

Not diplomatic, Abdul cautioned, jumping into the fray. However, the male judges had different ideas - they were definitely impressed, though it is not clear if it was because of the singing or the singer - more particularly what she was wearing. "Beautiful," Simon Cowell pronounced after hearing just a few bars (was he referring to the performance or the bikini?). Randy Jackson added, "I think you have a have a lot of potential. I'm going to say yes."

That bikini is going to Hollywood and the next round of auditions. Will we see more girls, and guys, dressing skimpily in the days to come, or probably the future season of American Idol?
