Oprah's cocaine past : Oprah was a cocaine addict / cocaine user?

Was Oprah a cocaine addict? Did Oprah really use cocaine regularly in the eighties and even worked on her talk show under the influence? These are just some of the questions being raised as a blockbuster tell-all book has allegedly revealed that the queen of talk, media mogul and role model of many American women was once a cocaine addict.

Randolph Cook, diagnosed with esophageal cancer and with only two years to live has come out with a book about his life with Oprah. He alleges that during his six-month secret love affair with the media mogul, Oprah had been using cocaine regularly and was in

fact under the influence during her show tapings. Although Oprah Winfrey had already confessed to using the banned substance sometime during the turbulent seventies when she was obsessed with a drug dealer, she made no mention about using cocaine afterward. According to Cook, Oprah resumed the habit during their love affair, which began in 1984. Oprah was apparently the one who taught him how to smoke crack cocaine.

This story, revealed in Cook's "The Wizard of O: My Life with Oprah", can always be brushed off as a sensationalist claim by an ex-lover trying to cash in on his past with a big-time celebrity. However, there seems to be some credence to his story. A National Enquirer investigation seems to back up what Randolph Cook is claiming. During their investigation in 2007, a 17-page court document was discovered at the National Archives and Records Administration in Chicago. The document, entitled "Defendant Oprah Winfrey's Answer to Plaintiff's Amended Complaint at Law," reveals that she had sexual relations with Randolph Cook and that the two used cocaine in each other's presence.

This is one blockbuster revelation. But what makes it even a bigger and juicier story than other celebrity disclosures in the past is Oprah Winfrey. She is the idol of millions, not only in America but around the world. They have put her on a pedestal, idolizing almost her every deed, believing her every word. But then again, everybody makes mistakes, even the best of us, even Oprah. What's more, this happened more than twenty years ago!

What do you think?
