Rupee sheds 15 paise against US dollar

The Indian rupee fell by 11 paise to Rs 45.20 per US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today as the American currency posted gains against its major currency rivals on the back of good economic and industrial output data.

The rupee had ended 16 paise higher at Rs 45.05/06 against the US dollar in the previous session on Friday.

Forex dealers said dollar gains against other major currencies and demand from importers put pressure on the rupee. A better opening in the stock market capped the rupee's losses, they added.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by 95.81 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 19,604.70 in opening trade today.
