Sachin Tendulkar Said ‘No’ to Rs. 20 Crore Liquor Ad

MUMBAI: The great Sachin Tendulkar, idol of many youngsters and cricket freaks, had once again chosen principles over money by saying ‘no’ to endorse a liquor ad. As per the reports, Tendulkar refused a whopping Rs. 20 crore-offer to endorse a top liquor brand.

Sachin, who is admired by everyone when he is on the field, is also loved by his fans for his moral conduct. Following his middle class roots and traditional values, the master blaster refused to promote liquor or cigarettes.

However, the brand has not left any stone unturned to get the nod of Sachin for the deal by offering a whopping amount of Rs 20 crore a year to become its ambassador. But there is no information on which brand approached Sachin for the liquor endorsement.

Sachin Tendulkar

Sources revealed, “He (Sachin) has decided not to endorse products that are harmful to one’s health ever and has stayed away from them. This time, however, the lure was too high. Yet, he said no to the offer.”

A former player close to Tendulkar revealed that he is living up to the promise he made to his father. “His father had advised him against endorsing alcohol-related or tobacco products soon after he had made the Indian Test team. Anyways, money can never lure Tendulkar and this offer is a classic example of how he believes in his principles and values his cricket,” he said.

According to the experts of the commercial endorsement business, if Sachin agreed to the deal, it would have been the highest-ever deal for an Indian sportsperson.

Recently, Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has signed a Rs. 26 Crore deal for three years with liquor baron Vijay Mallya’s UB group. The offer which was made to Sachin, was much higher than what Dhoni has inked. Refusing such a huge amount proves Tendulkar is person of great value and principles.
